Microsoft shipped major UX improvements for model-driven apps, including a new form designer and inline editing in views.
Model-driven apps in Power Apps received meaningful improvements in the 2026 Wave 1 release. If you build line-of-business apps on Dataverse, here's what you need to know.
The legacy form designer has been replaced with a modern, drag-and-drop editor. Key improvements:
Users can now click into cells in model-driven app views and edit values directly, similar to an Excel spreadsheet. This works for text, number, choice, and date fields. Lookup fields open a quick-select dropdown.
This was one of the most requested features on the Power Apps Ideas board, with over 3,200 votes.
A new "Copilot assist" panel can appear alongside forms, giving users AI-generated suggestions as they fill in fields. For example, when creating a case record, Copilot can suggest a summary based on the description, or recommend a priority level based on historical data.
The navigation and sitemap experience remains the same. Business rules syntax hasn't changed. Canvas app embedding in model-driven apps works exactly as before.
Existing model-driven apps will gradually receive the new form designer. There's no breaking change - your current forms will continue to work. To opt in early, toggle the "Modern form designer" flag in your environment settings.
